Artist Statement

Ally Boyle is an accomplished American contemporary painter and illustrator. Her oil paintings and illustrations strive to promote a sense of optimism through color and composition. Her main subjects vary from nature inspired paintings of landscapes, animals, to dreamy pop surreal abstract portraits. Boyle paints on either canvas or glass; often on a large sale. The works on glass vary from opaque oil paint moments, translucent stained glass like moments, to crystal clear glass sections. When hung, the pieces produce unique and interesting shadows on the walls beside the painting.
Boyle is inspired mainly by her love for nature, animals, and the beauty she finds in organic life. Boyle find’s the most beauty and inspiration in the small details of everyday life and nature. She is inspired by artists of the past who painted nature: especially Van Goh and Georgia O’Keeffe. Boyle likes to start her landscapes outside and then take high quality photos and finish the details in her studio. Growing up in a wooded area has been a calming element in Boyle’s life, and has become a pillar of inspiration for her art. After reflection, she realized that her work has been an unintentional outlet for emotions, and for that reason it also has an inert emotional quality.
Along with Boyle’s work revolving around nature and evoking emotion, the last defining quality of her artwork is her interest in the push and pull between realism vs abstraction. Realism strives to create the illusion of a 3D shape on a 2D surface; playing with the idea of enforcing and deconstructing realism simultaneously in one work of art has led to my recent surreal body of work. This art has its footing in nature, and head in the clouds. Boyle aims for unexpected yet smooth combinations of humans, nature, and abstract moments of color to appreciate paint for the material it is.
Boyle has exhibited at various pop-up art shows at Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she received her Bachelors in Illustration, as well as art shows across New England. Boyle has also sold her oil painted work to independent collectors; as well as creating custom commissioned graphite and oil original fine art pieces for clients. Boyle is a published artist. She has done freelance illustration work for a young adult book Patinewah and the Border Guard, Grolier Poetry, Boston Cantatas, White Ribbon Project, Girls Rock Boston, and was in NECANN World’s Greatest Coloring Book in 2020.
